What Drives Us

It's my first day back in the office after an eight-night honeymoon in Costa Rica and, as it turns out, my company has not burned down to the ground. My team handled everything in my absence. I didn't even check my emails! Well, that's a lie... I did read them, but I didn't respond to any client emails! Not a one! That's a personal best for me and it's what I want for you too! I can't offer you that freedom from your operations, but I can offer you freedom from your marketing.

We are a marketing agency that specializes in the financial planning industry. That means... financial planners, financial advisors, coaches to advisors, para-planners, investment consultants, and everything in-between. Yes, a big part of the reason we concentrate our marketing focus on financial planning is because we know the industry and have tons of experience, but that's not what makes us enthusiastic and excited to come to work every day. The real spark that ignites our passion is our belief in the power of what you do, not just from the touching stories we get to hear about how you've helped your clients, but from first-hand experience!

Growing up, I wasn't taught investment principles beyond "a penny saved is a penny earned." My "saving" for a car and, later, college was a savings account with a credit union that I'd stash every penny I earned working after school to "grow" it. I don't blame my family for this lack of knowledge. They didn't know it to teach it! My maternal grandparents were depression-era survivors. They eloped before graduating high school and in the early years of my mother's life, lived in an RV with three kids. Before I was born, my parents were missionaries in Scotland. After returning to the states, my mother was a teacher and my father was a small business owner. Income was always in short supply. In the late '90s/early '00s, my family declared bankruptcy (or maybe it was my dad's business - all I know is that bankruptcy was declared and it was scary for me at the time). I saw my family's financial struggle and, not wanting to add to that burden, would use my own money to buy things I wanted.

I was lucky to graduate college with no debt thanks to Florida's Bright Futures scholarship. I had been in a long-term serious relationship that ended and left me with a few thousand in debt. I had been the bread winner, but unfortunately didn't bring home enough bread to provide for both of us without using a credit card. I found myself in the exact situation I had wanted to avoid. I wanted to be in a better financial situation than the one I knew, but I didn't know how.

It was right around this time that I got a job at a financial planning firm. I didn't know it at the time, but this job had a profound impact on the trajectory of my life. I truly believe it was God providing for me. I soaked up every ounce of information I could. I would ask each advisor I worked for if they would look over my finances. When the client service associate position was vacant for longer than expected, I picked up the phone and asked our broker-dealer what needed to be done. I made friends with our compliance department who knew me by name. I studied for nearly a year and got my securities license. Then, I applied everything I learned to my own situation.

Where am I now?

I've been debt-free since 2013. I have an emergency fund that would sustain my family for 6 - 8 mos. I have a Roth IRA and an Individual account. My husband and I paid for our wedding out of pocket with our savings, replenished said savings, then saved up again for our honeymoon, which as you may recall, is the trip I referenced at the beginning of this article.

I believe in the work I do. I know that together, we can achieve your marketing goals. But the reason I come to work every day is because I believe in the work you do
